A public university quad is a perfectly viable and legal space in which to hold a protest, especially when a major goal of the protest is for the university to divest funds from Israeli interests.. than if a protest somehow DOES get violent (before the cops get there or are summoned) and they have to go in to quell the violence. These things can easily
get way out of hand. Now, if it were the cops going on in and CAUSING the violence and mayhem against peaceful protestors or bystanders, and that has
in fact happened the past two weeks or so, they have no leg to stand on. If people at the protests are causing violence, then those people have no expectation
of not being arrested, manhandled etc. by the cops. At that point, it ceases to become protest and free speech.

I initially supported the real students who were protesting peacefully, but I began to against them since the Columbia incident, where they smashed glasses, forced their way into the building and took a staff member hostage, then barricaded themselves. That is terrorism, they should be charged, and spend term in jail.
It's funny, there's protests in Georgia over a new law over foreign actors. The US is categorically condemning the Georgian government and the Georgian police force and calling on them to allow the protests. There's no focus on the small amount of Georgian protesters who are causing property damage or causing violence because of course that would be wrong to highlight. The majority of Georgians are peacefully protesting and there's no reason for the police to intervene. Thus covering the 2 percent of violent protesters would give oversized attention to them and make it seem like the Georgian government is correct to crush the protesters with cops.
Same thing happening in the US, overwhelmingly peaceful protest....but the narrative is, "College kids are out of control, they must be stopped, look at all the violence! Jewish students feel unsafe!"
